Alistair Hill

Experience

Alistair is a public health professional with over 30 years of diverse experience. He started his career in 1993, initially working in the NHS to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic. He is currently a Consultant in Public Health at Surrey County Council.

 

Alistair was a member of the local public health team in Brighton & Hove from 2008 to 2024 and was passionate about reducing unfair health inequalities throughout the city. In particular, he worked closely with clinicians, service commissioners and managers, community and voluntary sector organisations and people with lived experience to ensure that the health needs of people experiencing homelessness were recognised and prioritised in local services. He was appointed as Director of Public Health for Brighton & Hove in 2018 and subsequently led the local public health response to the Covid-19 pandemic, working closely with Arch Healthcare and other city partners to protect the health and wellbeing of people experiencing homelessness.

 

Alistair has Masters degrees in Public Health and Health Economics, is registered on the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health (FFPH). As a resident of the city, Alistair and is grateful for the opportunity this role provides to serve the city and to help to improve the health of people experiencing homelessness.
