If you’re off work due to sickness for more than 7 days, your employer will usually ask for a fit note (or Statement of Fitness for Work) from a healthcare professional. Fit notes are sometimes referred to as medical statements or a doctor’s note. This is so your employer can claim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, called a ‘Statement of fitness for work’ (Form Med3) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted. For more information on fit notes from the NHS, check their dedicated page.
Please contact the surgery to sort out your fit note.
