Dr Chris Sargeant, GP and Executive Director

Originally from Yorkshire, I qualified in medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in 1989 and then completed GP training in North London. I joined a large general practice after completing training and left this to start the Morley Street Surgery (later Brighton Homeless Healthcare) in 1998.

I have been clinically involved in the care of excluded people ever since. I completed an MSc in Addictions at King’s in 2006. I have been involved with teaching at Brighton and Sussex Medical School since it opened 12 years ago, and currently hold a part time post as a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Medical Education where I teach undergraduate and postgraduate students on health and homelessness issues.

I also organise the national Pathway CPD events and am chair of the Pathway Education Committee. I am a GP Mentor for other doctors in the HEKSS mentoring scheme. In 2008 I took up a role as a GP with special interest in substance misuse with Whittington Health.

I’m a director of Arch mainly because of my work with Pathway. In 2012 I was appointed as the GP Lead in the Pathway Homeless Team in Brighton, initially as part of a clinical trial into the effectiveness of specialist homeless teams in the acute hospital setting. 

This development, along with a renewed focus of homelessness and health in the area, has been a driver for the planned development of an Integrated Homelessness and Health Team.
